Below is a list of upcoming lifelong learning opportunities for alumni, students and friends of Southwestern University. Please contact the Office of Alumni and Parent Relations at alumni@southwestern.edu or by calling 800-960-6363 with any questions.

Road Scholars Hit the Road
See which local associations are planning Road Scholars Presentations for Spring 2009. Make sure you do not miss the Southwestern University faculty member visiting your area! Scheduled events include:

  • The Greater Austin Association (Wednesday, March 4, 2009) - Dr. Paul Gaffney, Dean of the Sarofim School of Fine Arts and Professor of Theatre, “Do They Really Drink Green Beer?: The Irish in America.”

Chautauqua Institution 2009 Summer Program and Group Rates
If you are looking for an enriching, relaxing experience for you and your family this summer, the Chautauqua Institution is offering a special, all-inclusive  group rate   for Southwestern University alumni. The Chautauqua Institution is a not-for-profit organization that offers programs and facilities for spiritual renewal, intellectual stimulation and art appreciation. Among its amenities are accommodations at the Athenaeum Hotel, performance venues, golf, tennis, and educational and recreational facilities. Southwestern University learned about the educational offerings of Chautauqua Institution through the Institutions new director of education Sherra Haygood Babcock ’70. If you attend this summer, please share your experience with the Office of Alumni and Parent Relations as we are exploring the possibility of designating a Southwestern week at Chautauqua for Summer 2009. For more information about the Chautauqua Institution and details about the 2008 program, visit http://www.ciweb.org/.

Alumni Travel: Chianti, Italy
For its first international alumni travel program, The Association has arranged a tour of the Tuscany region of Italy through AHI Travel. The tour will take place September 13-21, 2009 with prices starting at $2,495 plus airfare and value-added tax (VAT), based on double-occupancy. For questions or to make a reservation, please contact AHI Travel at 800-323-7373.

Travel to 2010 World Expo in Shanghai, China
Southwestern alumni, families and friends are invited to join in a 10-day tour to China, June 7-16, 2010. Tour participants will visit the major sights of Beijing, the Great Wall, and the 2010 World Expo in Shanghai, where Southwestern's own Professor of Music, Dr. Kenny Sheppard, will conduct a combined choral performance of Joseph Haydn’s Mass in Time of War (Paukenmesse). Southwestern alumni singers have the opportunity to join in the choir, which will be comprised of musicians from around the world. Visit the tour Web site and download the tour brochure for details. A registration form is also available online. The first deposit for the tour is due April 1, 2009 to the tour operator, Kingsway International, LLC. If would like a printed copy of the brochure and registration form mailed to you, please send an e-mail to Amanda Randall at randalla@southwestern.edu. For questions about the tour, please contact Kingsway International at 719-260-0200.
