Dr. Carol Pirrung Simpson, Lewisville, is in the final year of law school at SMU after taking semi-retirement from her faculty position at the University of North Texas. She and her son will graduate from law school at the same time.
Patrick L. Wallace, CHE, administrator of East Texas Medical Center Athens, is the new chairman of the Texas Hospital Association’s 2005-2006 Board of Trustees. He will be installed as chairman at the board’s annual planning retreat, August 12 in Marble Falls.
Dick Ellis, Cedar Park, chokes up when asked what he misses about delivering the news five nights a week on TV. "I miss people coming up to me and saying, 'You make a difference in my life,'" he says, tears welling up in his eyes. "It's that person who I don't even know who walks off the street that says thank you."
Thomas Forbes '71 was awarded Southwestern's prestigious Citation of Merit Award in 1996 for performing "outstanding civic and professional service." He specializes in public law, transactions and dispute resolution. When he isn't giving legal advice to clients such as The British Consul-General and National Football League, he volunteers.
David Clifford '71 managed a miracle when he organized the Neurological AIDS Research Consortium. His long-time interests in pharmacology, infectious diseases and the brain combined to make him a natural leader in research on the treatment of AIDS and other immunodeficiency diseases.
Over the past year, both Paul and Patty Bell earned distinguished awards reserved for the most respected educators in their fields. Last March, Patty was honored at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., with the National Science Foundation's Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching. In November, Paul won the Pennock Distinguished Service Award for meritorious and outstanding achievement at Colorado State University.
