Hunt was named provost and dean of the faculty. Dr. Hunt has spent the past two years as acting provost and dean of faculty, and was appointed after a national search. "Overall my goal is to move our academic, and education program, to what I think is exemplary, to be inspirational, to be the kind of educational program that transforms students," Hunt said. Previously, Hunt had been professor of education and chair of the Department of Education at Southwestern. He also has chaired Southwestern's Division of Social Sciences and has overseen the strategic planning process for 2010.
Brown Symposium XXIV -- February 21-22, 2002 "Globalization: Win-Win or Win-Lose?" Brown Symposium XXIV will present four distinguished social scientists who will offer their views on the economic, social, and environmental issues, as well as the winners and losers, in the runaway race to globalize. Speakers for the symposium include: Joseph E. Stiglitz, the 2001 Nobel Laureate in Economic Sciences; Herman Daly, a senior economist in the Environment Department at the World Bank, in Washington, D.C.; Saskia Sassen, the Ralph Lewis Professor of Sociology at the University of Chicago and the Centennial Visiting Professor at the London School of Economics; and Stephen J. Kobrin, the William H. Wurster Professor of Multinational Management at The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
The 24th symposium in the series has been developed by A.J. Senchack, Southwestern University professor of Economics and Business and Holder of the Lucy King Brown Chair. The Brown Symposium is presented by Southwestern University on an annual basis. Open to the public without charge, the symposium is funded through an endowment established by The Brown Foundation, Inc., of Houston, Texas, for professorships at the University.

Southwestern Inducts Two Into Athletic Hall of Fame Paul Peak, the SU men's basketball coach for 13 seasons (1978-1991), and football, basketball, and track star Ted Bare '47 will be honored this spring in Georgetown.
Peak compiled a record of 226-158 (.589) while guiding 12 teams to postseason play at Southwestern, then a member of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA). Three of Peak's teams advanced to the NAIA National Tournament (1985, 1986, and 1990) as District IV champions. At its 1990 appearance in Kansas City, Peak's squad was awarded the prestigious Dr. James Naismith-Emil S. Liston Sportsmanship Award.
Ted Bare '47, was a standout in three sports at Southwestern with the majority of his fame arising from his accomplishments in football. As both a defensive and offensive end, Bare was a member of the victorious 1945 Pirate Sun Bowl team. He was named to the All-Texas Conference in 1946 and was the SU Most Valuable Athlete in 1945.
