ON CAMPUS
XXV Brown Symposium: Spiritualities of Resistance - February 2-4
For generations, religious and spiritual traditions have provided the grounding for resistance to myriad oppressions. Mahatma Gandhi, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, His Holiness the Dalai Lama, and The Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. are just a few of those who have led and continue to lead these struggles. "Spiritualities of Resistance" brings together voices from various perspectives speaking to some current oppressions and spiritually/religiously based resistance movements, particularly those related to ecological justice. As stated by Roger S. Gottlieb, "In this path, spirituality and resistance to the destruction of life are inextricably connected." Visit

Residence Life Study
Based on the 2010 Strategic Plan and its emphasis on enriching the residential experience for all students, the University's Enrollment Management Committee has recommended that SU adopt a three-year residency requirement. President Schrum has since asked Dean Sherri Babcock to research and review residential models nationally. Read more about the Strategic Plan recommendations at

Paideia Professors Announced
Southwestern University recently announced the names of faculty members who have been selected to serve as inaugural "Paideia Professors."
