Annual Fund Goal Met, Budget Balanced
Thanks to thousands of alumni, parents, staff, faculty, friends, and even students, the FY 2002-2003 Annual Fund goal of $1,367,000 was met and exceeded by a narrow margin. This thoughtful support --thoughtful in its most literal sense: people giving careful thought to making gifts -- helped SU achieve a balanced budget for the recently completed fiscal year. The alumni participation rate of 33.2% for FY02-03 nearly matched the previous year's success of 33.8%, an especially meaningful result during a year marked by economic and other uncertainty. Southwestern alumni and other supporters showed their pride in the University by choosing it as a recipient of their philanthropy.
One group of supporters deserves special recognition--the 118 people who, when asked to help SU reach the goal for operating dollars, made additional gifts to the University totaling $11,800. Southwestern is especially grateful for the generosity of "second effort" donors, listed below. Rev. Comer '54 & Mrs. Alden, Mrs. Elizabeth Allen '42, Mr. C.
