SU Student Architectural Model Featured in Howe Exhibit at Smithsonian
A scale model of the Roman villa San Marco constructed by three Southwestern University students will be added to a featured exhibit at the Smithsonian in Washington, D.C. this month. A reception for area alumni and parents will be held at the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History on Tuesday, September 28. For more information, call the Alumni Office at 1-800-960-6363. Alumnus Named as New Vice President of Enrollment Services
Thomas J. Oliver '89, has been appointed to Southwestern University as the new vice president for enrollment services following an extensive national search. Oliver replaces longtime mentor John W. Lind, vice president of enrollment management, who is retiring after 22 years of providing leadership in the admission and financial aid area.

Writer's Voice Presents Tony Kushner, Pulitzer Prize-Winning Playwright
A project of the A. Frank Smith, Jr. Library Center, the Writer's Voice is pleased to bring authors of national or international prominence to the Southwestern University campus. The 2004 Writer's Voice guest is Tony Kushner, Pulitzer Prize-winning Playwright. Kushner will appear on campus Wednesday, October 20, 2004. Time and ticket details will follow in the coming weeks. In an effort to celebrate the creative endeavors of alumni, Southwestern University is hosting its first-ever Alumni Art Exhibit. The exhibit is scheduled for October 5-25, 2004 in The Sarofim School of Fine Arts on Southwestern University's campus. The exhibit reception coincides with Homecoming and Reunion Weekend, October 22-24, 2004.

The Sarofim School of Fine Arts Launches 2004-2005 Season
Throughout the year The Sarofim School of Fine Arts will present over 50 concerts, plays, art showings and public lectures. There is an admission charge to the plays. In conjunction with the Writer's Voice, The Sarofim School of Fine Arts Theatre Department will host

Southwestern Employment Opportunities
Southwestern University is currently seeking a Service Learning/Service Coordinator. This position is a 10-month, full-time, benefited, entry-level professional position. At present, the position is funded for one year. The individual selected for this position would work with Southwestern University students to develop service opportunities in community organizations, as well as with faculty who want to incorporate service learning into their classes. Although this position would report to the Associate Provost, responsibilities would cross over between the academic affairs and the student life areas. Pirate Athletics Update
Optimism abounds for Southwestern University Intercollegiate Athletics as it kicks off the 2004 fall season with both excitement and anticipation.
Women's soccer will begin its season September 1 at Hardin-Simmons University and will play a string of road games before returning home to host the University of St. Thomas (Minn.) at 3 p.m. on September 24. Under the direction of Head Coach Jack Flatau, this season’s squad looks to claim a spot in the top three of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference and improve on last season’s 9-9-1 (3-5-1 SCAC) ledger.
Men's soccer opens on September 3 at the University of the Redlands and will host McMurry University on September 8 at 4 p.m. in its first home match of the season. The Pirates enter the 2004 season looking to build on their tremendous 2003 success where they recorded their best conference finish (tied-2nd) in school history with an impressive overall 13-6 record and also set a school record for most goals scored in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC).
Volleyball looks to continue its tradition of success under the direction of first-year coach Hannah Long. Long joins the SU staff after serving as the assistant women's volleyball coach at Western Oregon University. Volleyball will travel to Maryville College on September 3-4 to compete in the Maryville Invitational. The Pirates will host the Southwestern Invitational on September 17-18.
Men's golf will travel to Abilene on September 13-14 to open its season at the West Texas Intercollegiate.
Women's golf will compete September 18-19 at the Illinois Wesleyan Invitational on September 18-19.
Men's tennis opens on September 10-11 competing at the ACU Walmart Invitational, while
women's tennis will compete at the DePauw Invitational on September 11-12.
